Artfully Crafted has selected rattan as its primary material for furniture and handicrafts. The high-quality rattan sourced from Indonesia is particularly sought after in international markets, especially in the United States and Europe.
Rattan is divided into two primary groups based on the characteristics of its stem:
- Stem Rattan: Known for its thick and robust stem, which serves as the foundational structure of furniture pieces. Notable types include:
- Batu rattan: Characterized by its large diameter and exceptional strength, making it the preferred choice for constructing the frames of chairs, tables, and sofas.
- Manau rattan: With its tightly packed, resilient fibers, Manau rattan is well-suited for crafting furniture components that require flexibility.
- Sega rattan: Featuring delicate and pliable fibers, Sega rattan is expertly used for creating intricate woven patterns.
2. Bark rattan: The outer layer of the rattan stem, characterized by its thinness and flexibility, is specifically used for weaving applications.
- Skin rattan: Derived from the outer layer of the rattan stem, skin rattan is sliced into thin strips and employed for creating various woven patterns.
- Twisted rattan: Even finer than skin rattan, twisted rattan is sliced into extremely thin strips, resulting in exceptionally delicate and intricate weaves.
- Lasio rattan: The thinnest form of rattan bark, Lasio rattan is sliced into paper-thin strips and used to produce exceptionally fine and dense weaves.
